About Us

The partner governments and devolved assemblies have a long tradition in collaborating on areas of mutual interest including energy. For example, the Single Electricity Market (SEM) on the island of Ireland has been in operation since November 2007. However, the inclusion of the West of Scotland as part of the eligible area for the INTERREG IVA cross border programme in 2008 widened the scope for trilateral cooperation. The project partners secured over £1m INTERREG IVA funding in January 2010 for the initial ISLES study with a second award approved in July 2013

The Scottish Government (Energy & Climate Change Directorate) is lead administrative partner for ISLES in partnership with the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment (DCCAE) in Ireland and the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment (DETI) in Northern Ireland. The serving Chairman for ISLES II is Dermot Rhatigan from the Scottish Government and the full Steering Committee is currently comprised as follows:

Frank McGrogan serves as Project Manager for ISLES II and secretariat to the Steering Committee and is supported by Marian McSeveney, Policy Officer with the Scottish Government. In addition a number of specialist advisors from across the partner jurisdictions have agreed to provide support to the Steering Committee on matters relating to marine planning, economics and regulation
