The consultation period for the ISLES Spatial Plan and Sustainability Appraisal commenced today, 2nd February, and will be open until 13th April 2015.


The Plan will form a key part of ISLES II ‘Towards Implementation’, so today’s consultation launch marks a major milestone for the project. The Plan will provide guidance to the offshore energy sector on the development of an interconnected offshore electricity grid network in the waters between Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland and wider UK. The Plan includes location guidance on the most suitable areas for development of offshore grid infrastructure.


The Draft Plan prepared for the ISLES project partners by AECOM and ABPmer is available to download from the ISLES II page of this site . In accordance with the European Directive 2001/42/EC, Environmental Assessment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009, the Plan is accompanied by a Sustainability Appraisal discussing the potential socio-economic and environment effects. The Sustainability Appraisal is also available to download here and comprises:

•Socio-economic Impact Assessment


A series of public consultation workshops will be held on the Draft Plan and Sustainability Appraisal. These are scheduled to take place as follows;


Belfast – Wednesday 4th March, Hilton Hotel (Lanyon Place, Waterfront), BT1 3LP

Dublin – Friday 6 March, Convention Centre, Spencer Dock, North Wall Quay, Dublin 1

Glasgow – Monday 9 March, Jury’s Inn, Jamaica Street, Glasgow G1 4QG
